Glastonbury Backpackers is part of The Crown Hotel, a 16th century Coaching Inn situated in the absolute heart of Glastonbury at the foot of the high street by the famous monument, the venue also for Glastonbury’s Street Market (held on Tuesdays).
It is a unique, vibrant and colourful place to stay whether for one night or longer. With easy access to all the local attractions and the surrounding countryside.
Historically Glastonbury is renown for ancient British legend and myth. It reputedly hosts the first Christian Church, founded by Joseph of Arimathea, who is said to have buried the Holy Grail at the foot of Glastonbury Tor (a 526ft-high hill which still dominates the landscape today). According to Arthurian legend, Glastonbury, or the Isle of Avalon as it was formerly known, is the burial place of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere.
More recently, the town of Glastonbury has become famous for its religious and cultural festivals and music events, most notably held at Glastonbury Abbey and, of course, the world-famous Glastonbury Music Festival held just outside the town in Pilton. The Crown Inn is the perfect place from which to view the annual Glastonbury carnival which is held in November of each year. This is a famous event so it is probably best to book now in time for the next one!
